I'm honestly indifferent towards Garret. I wouldn't label him problematic though. At least not in a way that he needs to be "canceled." It's one thing to be overly quirky for the camera, it's another thing to be overly quirky and take advantage of people like Shane does. His fake tears and all that come along with it.
Shane legit needs to be called out and not be able to hide behind 12 year olds and adults with low self-esteem. He legitimately is pretending that 10 years worth of things didn't happen. It isn't even like the stuff that he should be hiding from. It's stuff like he has been poor up until a week ago or that he he has never had brand deals or merch in stores.
I very much doubt that he was ever diagnosed with body dysmorphia or any form of anxiety. They just sounded nice in his head once he read them because he could get away with saying it and used it too appease to his idiot fans.
I'd have much more respect for Shane if:
- He truly admitted and addressed his past problematic behavior (basically his whole youtube career up until now) but showed he's genuinely changed
- Used his money and influence for something actually positive
- Stopped making suicide and pills jokes or using mental illness as a way of being quirky and relatable
- Stopped playing the victim every time someone doesn't kiss the ground he steps on
- Admitted he's been a millionaire for years with merch and books sold out years ago instead of trying to erase his past success for sympathy. Admitted that and that he wanted to earn more money and thought that this partnership with Joffrey would be economically profitable for him. Also that he never had interest for makeup but he saw this as a profitable business venture. It's not that deep to admit it's about the money, I don't get why he has to pretend that it's about his "passion" for makeup or that it's not about money when his own video series shows it was... he'd sellout anyway
- Either leave youtube for good or stick to the upload schedule promises he makes to his fans
- Admit that he filmed everything he could without a plan or direction, chose the scenes and edited all last minute according to the feedback he was getting
If he dropped this fake "I'm Oprah of youtube, depressed and poor and has the chance of a lifetime of being helped by Joffrey to fulfill my dreams with my (1 year or less) passion for makeup" act and was real he'd still sell out his products and at least he'd be more respected. It must be exhausting putting up such an act for so long.
