Just like clockwork.
Only difference is this time it seems the Book Consumerism Is Bad video is for people not as active in the online book community.

This was a well-done video and a fun watch but … girl where have you been lol? I’ve been around the book world for a long time online and it’s ALWAYS been about consumerism

Yeah it would've been good to point that, even if the problem intensified since the arrival of booktok, it started years ago on booktube

I watched that video too and it was fine but it was definitely giving 'I just learned about the book community a year ago' when it really has been like this for yearsss, pretty much since booktubers starters making money with it really. I didn't end up commenting but I don't think it's any worse on booktok then it was in booktubes glory days. Honestly some of it back then was insane - especially the bookish merch. Like what are you even gonna do with all these candles/bookmarks/pillow cases/mugs ect ect

I'm not a fan of all the special editions, which don't seem special anymore since every other book has one. All companies just joined the new trend for this new aesthetic.

I liked this video, I'm going to browse the channel and probably suboh_do_tell wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:02 amThis popped up on my feed, she is a smaller booktuber so I don't know how many people will see it
One point I think is missing but I notice when things like this happen, is people have zero education on the subject and zero desire to learn. Even people who talk about it - they reshare things their mutuals post but they don't ever go and actually independently learn and because of that they don't even understand how to modify their behaviour. Like I'm sure a lot of people have seen they cannot talk about xyz author anymore because they are a zionist, but they don't understand why, and that is a big problem!! It meant they cannot evaluate information in the future and actually be a productive activist. It's like when BLM was happening and people were recommending fiction novels about police brutality to "understand" what was happening... like babes this might be a time to read a NONFICTION essay about anti-racism or do some REAL research but anyway. I do think many online bookish activists wouldn't even begin to dream of like, attending a protest. They just post to avoid getting cancelled. It really is sad

Because some people just don't care about politics or social issues but unfortunately today there is a big pressure to say your stance publicly so they just share posts of what they think is right and think they did their part. Especially if you are a public figure, in our case a booktuber/bookstagramer with larger following.gijjer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 2:50 amI liked this video, I'm going to browse the channel and probably suboh_do_tell wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:02 amThis popped up on my feed, she is a smaller booktuber so I don't know how many people will see it

I'm strongly against forcing people to say publicly "on which side" they are of any issue, people are just too addicted to posting everything that they expect other to declare their opinions. Especially younger people who live on their phones and post every though online. Not everyone wants that.

Interesting...My Name is Marines has joined Bindery Books, but it looks like she's only using it as an alternative to Patreon, and not as a publishing press like the others are. Looking at their full list of Tastemakers, it looks like this is now an option alongside those who are actually acting as a press.

Yes. I’m astonished. I had recently followed Fit2BRead too a few weeks ago. It’s so disgusting and to read the news article about what he said about boys. Im the mom of an 11 year old and it just makes me feel even more disgusted

Re: Booktubers: Part 13
I saw that last night and it's SO upsetting. I followed him and got a lot of classic sci-fi recs from him, obviously unsubbed. I feel bad for anyone who considered him an actual friend.
