Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
How is this book not about her life? I would have been more impressed if she didn't take so many aspects of her life and turn it into a novel.2candy2 wrote:Got it! I've only read parts sporadically but if you wanna know what it's like
~There's a loot of use of (brackets).
~There's 2 sister characters who call each other Bister and Lister, taken from Louise & Tiyanas nicknames
~ It's all quite middle class. I suppose as Louise had a private all-girls education she's just writing about what she knows, but I did raise an eyebrow at 'its nothing like the down-at-heel and rowdy primary and comp where I went to school'. 'Lyla was struggling in her local oversubscribed primary'. I get the feeling she thinks normal schools are all rough
~The new partner of Robin's ex is called Storie (inspired by Devon's writing?) And is like hippy & weird and stuff. There's a part where Robin feels sad when Lyla goes off inbetween them but reminds herself that they love her - deffo seems to be taken from her feelings towards Matt Devon & Darcy
~ It's got a trip to New york in it.. obvs. Didn't Zoe's book have that too haha
~ Robin takes Lyla to ride ponies & Lyla hates it. Which of course is taken from Darcy hating it, but Robin's reason for taking Lyla is so she'll 'fit in' with private school friends. Do you think that's why Louise took Darcy?
~ It's too long imo.
~There are funny parts for sure!!
~ In the acknowledgements at the end she gives Liam a paragraph and calls him the love of her life, I do get a bit worried she's getting carried away with him :s then again, they're having a baby haha
~ I've read ahead some random pages and the sex parts look to be quite cringy if you imagine it coming from Louise- don't wanna know how she feels post-orgasm!
~Robin envies pretty much every other character, they are so beautiful/successful/cool/rich etc.
~ I wouldn't say it's a compelling book. I ended up opening it at random chapters yesterday on a rainy day and I think that's the type of thing it is.

A few reviews have said that there are errors in the book. The same happened with one of Tanya Burr's cook books. Do these people not need editors to check their work?

Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
Who is Drew? (I'm sorry I haven't really been following her that close since a few months)polarbearninja wrote:Carrie Fletcher put up a video with Louise today and asked Louise to describe the book.. and what she said made me think that maybe she has drawn her experience with Drew as a big inspiration for this book. I would not be surprised if there are parallels in the book of what happened with Drew. He basically whisked her off her feet and then broke her heart so she might have written some stuff that really happened with him.
A lot of people already have the book now so I guess we will know very soon what happens.
Sorry if my grammar and spelling sucks, I'm doing my best!

He's definitely a decent looking guy. Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
The book is very obviously Louise, to the point where I am struggling to imagine Robin as the stand alone brunette character she is and just keep imagining its Louise herself
Its not amazing but not bad though, and I have giggled a few times so far.

Ugh. I mean I haven't read it but when she talked about this book with a single mum who is 'on her own' with her daughter and something happens to her and she has this big secret...I didn't imagine she had a daughter in private school with another very involved coparent - that's about as charmed as it gets in terms of being a single parent! And if it's about some bloody man I could scream. I hoped it would be something INTERESTING. I mean she doesn't read and she's said that before which is going to make her an absolutely crap author (I like Louise but honestly I doubt the book would even be readable if you took out all of the editing her publishers did) so I shouldn't be disappointed. I guess I just thought she'd be...more aware of why the book's successful? Like she can't honestly think she's gotten all these rave reviews from booktubers, tons of people on twitter saying it'd great, all this press and handholding, etc. because she's just that fucking brilliant can she? Can she?!

Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
She has tried to say that she knows she is in a very privileged position to be able to publish a book, but I am not sure if she completely understands the situation she is in. The fact they put sophie kinsella's review on the front page is all just marketing and the first part of the book is all these rave reviews.... I mean if she doesn't know that the publisher has paid these other authors to give their opinion then that is delusional.luciakitty wrote:Ugh. At least she did put some sort of effort into the book and didn't just release some fidget spinners or some junk

Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
no she didn't but people suspect she had it heavily edited. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming she worked as hard and did as much as she could and that they'd let her.nardy wrote:Did she have a ghost writer as well?
Also I think it's a boy. In her live video today someone asked her if Liam was happy about the gender and she said yes blah blah and then said "I'm having reservations" and then kind of changed it to her just being anxious about having another baby.

Agreed on both accounts.
It wasn't ghostwritten a la zoella, but she would have got a lot of help and the publisher would have changed anything they weren't happy with.
I will be glad if it is a boy I think it will help balance out the super girly side.

Re: A Sprinkle of Sass - Louise Pentland part 10
Someone said she got a blood test done of some sort to help detect downs I think? And that can also detect gender. I wouldn't be surprised if she waits until 20 weeks to have a scan and see if the blood test was correct, then announce it.bethy wrote:Isn't it too early to know the gender?

I've read the book and you can definitely tell she wrote the majority of it, there are a lot of Louise catchphrases in there (the one I can think of off the top of my head is shit me).nardy wrote:Did she have a ghost writer as well?
I imagine the editor did a lot of shifting around and helped her out with bridging together parts of the story. However, I do genuinely believe that the majority of the book was written by Louise

I thought her new video on the printing of her book was quite interesting but oh my god can she stop talking over the guy giving them the tour. So rude and annoying!
