Re: booksandquills
Is she the only Booktuber who has a thread on here? If so, should we start a Booktuber thread to talk about all of them or is there already one?

A book tube thread would be awesome. I love how Sanne uploads so frequently. I don't know if she has always done this but I love it!

Re: booksandquills
Sanne recently reviewed a book that's being published by the company she works for and whose social media coordinator is. She didn't mention that in the video and there was no disclaimer. I left a comment and she answered that she mentions as often as possible that she works for that company. Now, that may be true and many of her subscribers may know about her job, but people who google a review for that book won't know. If Sanne was a beauty guru, she'd get a lot of shit. This wasn't the first time she did this and it would be sad if she turned her channel into an ad channel for HotKeysBooks.

Re: booksandquills
Had to unsubscribe after her rave review for It by Alexa Chang and her promoting Destroy This Book. Both garbage and waste of money. Most of the books she mentions she hasn't even read yet and then her Book Spines III take was lackluster. Booktubers are kind if no good. I'm gonna stick with book blogs only.

Re: booksandquills
It seems we're in for another Maze Runner video, according to her Twitter. Seriously Sanne, have you read nothing but TFioS and The Maze Runner in the past five years? How is this even possible? I know that the movie is coming out soon and she loves the actor but still.
Also, she really shouldn't do those blindfolded book-guessing challenges when there are so many books on her shelf she hasn't read yet.
Dutch speak words is funny though.

Re: booksandquills
I really enjoy Dutch speak words, they may be my favourites. But I've unsubscribed since her talk became too much talk show host/as seen on tv for me. The books she read and promote are often YA, which I usually find boring. Is there a book blog topic in Adored Blogs section? I'd love to see some recommendations.

Re: booksandquills
I think part of the problem is that people view a love of books as being more noble than a love of makeup. I do love books. I'm an English major and was considering a PhD in English (although thank God I didn't, given the current job market). But I do go slightly crazy when people start talking about books like they're the only thing in the world that matters.londongirl2001 wrote:Sanne recently reviewed a book that's being published by the company she works for and whose social media coordinator is. I don't mind that she plugs her company -- they likely hired her mostly because of her YouTube work (though I do know that she did normal internships as well).
What I mind is that she's almost 25 and still loooooves YA and nothing else. I like watching Sanne but I think her translation videos are far more interesting than hearing about her gushing about John Green for the millionth time.

Re: booksandquills
What I find funny is that she'll often reference her love for the Brontes (which, without being too snobby, are kind of just 19th Century YA, but I digress) and yet she only ever seems to actually read John Green-ish stuff.lillian wrote:I really enjoy Dutch speak words, they may be my favourites. That new hairstyle doesn't do her any favours, it makes her look fat and dowdy.

Re: booksandquills
As a long time watcher of sanne, i can safely say her videos have become much more focused on YA ever since she moved to London. When she was in the Netherlands she read much more widely. As for people who are looking for non-YA booktubers:
RonLit: She posts a lot of interesting reviews and she is gearing up to be a lit professor and academic. Her videos are both informative and hilarious.
Bazpierce: An Irish teen who loves English classics and is very opinionated. Not for everyone, but i like him.
Climbthestacks: She talks about American lit and reading as a way of life as well. She's a minimalist so no crazy book hauls.
Librarianfanmail: Always picks really obscure books to talk about, and is very very articulate. One of my faves.
I think those are my favorites! I really can't stand the more popular booktubers, all the screaming and crazy book hoarding. Also most of them are super shady about which books they are sent for review. A nice middle ground i think is Ariel bissett. I couldn't stand her for a long time , but she seems to have calmed down with the yelling and she is super transparent with her sponsored content, which i appreciate.
I inadvertently turned this into a booktuber thread, i am sorry.

I think the angle makes her look chubbier?
I quite like the hair actually. But her videos seem so boring lately.

I don't like the hair, really, but I do agree it's probably the angle or lightning
Re: booksandquills
I don't subscribe to Sanne, but check out her channel once a month. I find her reviews elementary and lacking real critical comments, but did I really expect that from a YT review? Not really. I guess I wanted to be fairly entertained yet learn something new, but Sanne's channel just doesn't do it for me. The types of books she reads are so YA-ish and childish. And about the Alexa Chung book, that was so laughable. I, myself, like Alexa Chung. I am definitely not a fangirl, but I did read her book (library!) and it was TERRIBLE.Stoneofstones wrote:Had to unsubscribe after her rave review for It by Alexa Chang and her promoting Destroy This Book. Thanks for this. Ariel is still way too loud and manic for my tastes, but all the others you mentioned look great!zoot wrote:As a long time watcher of sanne, i can safely say her videos have become much more focused on YA ever since she moved to London. I would love a thread on booktube in general - I have many opinions.
Some other booktubers who don't read YA (or at least not exclusively) and who don't act like they've just snorted a bunch of coke before filming their videos:
Rincey Reads - She does a mix of classics, popular fiction, YA, graphic novels, and a few other genres. She makes an effort to read minority authors and she has a lot of videos about gender & race and books which I find really thoughtful and interesting.
candysomething - She used to do a lot more book reviews than she does now, and her channel is a mix of her personal art, poems, writing, and vlogs. She always has the most articulate and interesting things to say about books, imo.
Nicole's Adventures in SFF - Nicole is working toward her PhD in molecular biology at UCLA yet she manages to read more books in a week than most serious readers read in a month. It's crazy how much science fiction & fantasy she reads in addition to her schoolwork reading.
Lindsey Rey - Another really fast reader, she reads a ton of books each week, mostly YA but some graphic novels, SF&F, and classics too. I love how concise and crisply edited her videos are.
(And ditto on Climbthestacks - she's probably my favorite booktuber, even though I often hate her taste in books. Her ability to read Jack Keouac just utterly baffles me.)

Re: booksandquills
Did anyone watch her newest video with Livs? Livs was so interesting and explaining the books really well and Sanne was acting like a child with her over exaggerated nodding. It kept distracting me from what Livs was saying.

For people looking for the booktube thread: viewtopic.php?f=181&t=10454
I feel as though we should get a whole section for them, even though some one them can be talked about in one place, I feel as though others deserve there own thread.

Re: booksandquills
I watched it and I totally agree with you about Liv, the way she presented the books was great. I instantly checked the info box to see whether she had a YT channel because I'd totally subscribe to her, too bad she doesn't have one.hobbitsies wrote:Did anyone watch her newest video with Livs?
