^Wow. I'd forgotten about that Sali Hughes one. The make-up in all those pics is just so bad. Did she have a hand in Sali's hair as well, because it looks so far gone from what Sali usually has going on.
Charlotte is very heavy handed applying make-up to herself, and it kind of looks like she takes the same approach to everyone going on what I've seen her do so far.
I'd be really interested to see some of the good work she's done. (I'm presuming there is some out there?) Anyone point me in the right direction?

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
And that to me is what makes a great makeup artist. Someone who can get over their own looks and preferences and make up people to enhance their own unique features. I never knew who Sali was back when I watched the above tutorial...I just remember thinking WTF is she doing? Now I know who Sali is and how she usually looks and am dumbfounded by what Charlotte did. Sali must have hated it Look at the eyebrows She pulled a pixiwoo there. And if I never hear her say the word "literally" again, it'll be too soon.Nin wrote:^Wow. I'd forgotten about that Sali Hughes one. The make-up in all those pics is just so bad. I'll try to see if I can find some "good" work by Charlotte and will report back!!

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
Ok I was bored enough to go through ALL her Youtube videos and grab screenshots of the handful of looks that I thought were fine. The rest are all awful IMO. Her weak point is definitely not knowing how to do heavy makeup nicely...she tends to overdo it with the shimmer/glow on the skin, the eyes, the glossy lips that look like they'll drip off on your chin any second, the wonky feline flicks

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
To be fair, that look she did on Sali was an Elizabeth Taylor look so it's not a look she randomly put together.
I wish she would cool it just a little with her brand promotion. I've been watching interviews of her, and she always manages to work her brand into her responses. It's slightly off putting because it's like she's shoving it down your throat throughout the entire interview. I'm sure the interviewer would have gradually steered the conversation towards her makeup line anyway so there's no need for her to be so aggressive with marketing.
I do prefer her style of makeup over Lisa's, but I just love dramatic makeup in general. I can see why Lisa is more popular though. After all, Lisa is the person who introduced YT to Charlotte. I can see how people who love Lisa for her no-makeup makeup would not be enamored by Charlotte's style.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
The thing is I also love dramatic make-up, but I never really see Charlotte as doing that. I feel like she just makes a hot mess a lot of the time. Sali could have looked great with an Elizabeth Taylor look, if Charlotte had tailored it correctly to her, but she didn't. It looks like she just threw it all on
I totally agree with you on the brand promotion. That more than anything else is what puts me off her to be honest. It totally lacks any class.
I usually adore the Sali Hughes "in the bathroom" series. I really struggled with the one she did with Charlotte though, because Charlotte used it as nothing but a promotion tool. Every couple of minutes she would mention one of her products, and the way she had laid them all out in the bathroom to keep picking up and showing to Sali was just so offputting.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
She definitely does the same look over and over again on YT. I think she's capable of way more than she lets on. She often creates slight variations of the same look or just regurgitates the same concepts in her videos. It's probably because she can't give away all their tips and techniques because she'd be doing herself out of a job. Plus, I think the whole winged out smokey eye + cat eye liner is part of Charlotte's marketing campaign for her makeup line. The only really terrible bad look I've seen Charlotte do on YT is the one where she demos her beach sticks I agree with the post that said the model looked better before. I think maybe she just is so eager to demo all the things you can do with a single product that it just becomes too much for one look. I still love her though lol. I'm totally biased.

I unsubbed a while ago. I had enough of her own brand promotion and, to be honest, I never found her looks that good anyway. I reckon Lisa is way more competent in their profession: she can explain things better, she can talk and speak without that horrid feeling as if she had a chewing gum in her mouth.... and, most important, uses many brands.

Has anyone used her makeup? It's got free shipping to Australia for a week I think so I'm debating whether or not to get anything.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
I have her Pillow Talk lip liner and although it's good, it's not unique. I checked out her make up at Nordstrom here in the US and her eyeshadows have a lot of sparkle and glitter which is not my thing at my age. Even the bronze and highlighter palette has too much shimmer for moi. But that's just IMO.onigiri815 wrote:Has anyone used her makeup? Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
I also have the Pillow Talk lip liner and agree that it's good, but I wouldn't purchase it again. I have her matte lipstick in Bond Girl and it doesn't last long on my lips. I have samples of her Miracle Cream (which is too rich for my skin, but might be nice for very dry skin) and Multi-Miracle Glow. The latter is very heavy on fragrance. I'm not opposed to fragrance in makeup/skincare but it's really potent in the MMG. Lovely fragrance, but still too much.onigiri815 wrote:Has anyone used her makeup? I do use her Vintage Vamp eye quad and really appreciate it for odd reasons. Since the packaging/quantity is small and light, it's easy to carry around. The colors are nice too and goes on less shimmery (except for the glitter gold shade) than it appears in the pan if you use a light hand. I hate toting around Tom Ford's heavy Cocoa Mirage palette.
So basically, I think her makeup is alright but not a Must Have if you're looking at other brands. I did get all my products at Selfridges and I'm not sure if there's a difference in formulation between the UK and US.

I wish she would learn to spread out her videos instead of releasing them in bunchespopofcolor wrote:Just a couple of days ago I discovered that Charlotte Tilbury has her own YouTube channel now. So happy to finally have somebody else (other than Lisa Eldridge) who is really successful (for all the right reasons) in the real world. I also love her bubbly personality.

I don't know what put her on the map or how long she's been around but the first time I saw her I thought she was in her 60's. I saw her hands and face wrinkles and then I see that she's pregnant! She's pretty annoying. I don't need to watch her videos but she did make me curious about her makeup line. Shows you what marketing can do.
I just tried her mascara which I am keeping (instead of returning because I will return any makeup I don't like). It reminds me of Voluminous which I should own stock in. It's got a semi dry formula which is good for me and it makes them full and long, they spread out.
I did like her eyeshadows in general, very pretty colors but like said above, too much glitter glam. I can take a tiny dab of a shimmer shadow and place it in the middle of my lid and that's enough. I got samples of the magic cream (all marketing). I tested her pencil liner which was smooth and semi long lasting. If anyone wants a gel pencil liner that does not come off, try the Tarte Smolderyes waterproof. Does not come off all day (for me).

This is hilarious. "Is it magic or is it foundation?" over and over again. It's like a perfume commercial only cheaper and sillier.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
Ive just started watching Charlotte. I really like the looks she does and she makes me wish I could have a nice moisturised base and a creamy foundation but, alas, oily skin.
I will say, as Im starting from newest to olders, the plugging of her products gets a bit off putting. Its not so much her using them but her boasting them and putting it on a bit "my award winning... its FULL of skin nourishing ingredients.. it BOASTS vitamin C.... it has an AMAZING"
we get it, you love your line haha tone down with the use of adjectives.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
I'm sure that the names Charlotte dreams up for her products should be banned....'wonder', 'miracle', 'magic'..... I saw a video of her doing her mum's make up and her mum swears by the wonder cream (to reduce wrinkles and even out fine lines).... The 'magic' cream isn't THAT good if Patsy has used it for years .... just my opinion
Stay home, stay safe & keep healthy
Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
i have 2 of her chameleon eye pencils...don't like em. Too much sparkle and when you blend out you end up with dull brown and bits of glitter. So disappointingonigiri815 wrote:Has anyone used her makeup? It's got free shipping to Australia for a week I think so I'm debating whether or not to get anything.

Re: Charlotte Tilbury/ctilburymakeup
Charlotte's style is too va va voom for me. She's a maximalist for sure. I don't like how she gives unrealistic descriptions to her products, I feel like she takes us for fools. I don't expect no miracle or magic from a freaking cream, pricy as it is. It could be really good quality, rich, pleasant to use and it might make my skin soft but that's hardly a miracle for someone with already good skin who's in their 20s or someone with aged skin in their 60s. Something that only goes on the surface could never produce a miracle imho.
XOXO
