Re: Mia Maples
Anyone else think her grandmas room looked fine before she made it over? I think it looked better than the make over to be honest. The makeover room liked fine and all but the before was better lol

Re: Mia Maples
AND the Grandparents lost the second bedroom
where guests could stay as well.
That is a really big deal .
Value wise it devalues the property.
It was a nice thoughtful gesture though
and they took it all really well when they
returned and found their place totally transformed.
But I thought that the place was much more homely
beforehand. Mia & her family could have easily made
a similar impact by painting and clearing up the junk
and transforming the Kitchen a little. I would have
been terrified that the reno wouldn't be to my Grand
Parent's taste. Grandparents usually being kind hearted
souls would just suck it all up, and not say anything. Person
ally I found it all to be quite intrusive. That's just my opinion.
I would have freaked out if someone did that to my place
without permission. Especially rummaging thru your personal
items and throwing out stuff that THEY feel you might not
wear again. What if some of that stuff had sentimental value?
We all have items like that. Junky looking but that has a very
special place in our hearts because of the memories it brings
back.

Re: Mia Maples
Honestly, even though it was a big gesture, since it took them 2 weeks of hard work and a lot of money to transform the whole house, I felt annoyed even watching the video. It is not even about liking or disliking the reno. Beginning of the video shows their bedroom and grandmas bras just laying around, just like most of us. But showing that kind of privacy to the whole world?? She does not even share her real name and publicly showcases her grandparents private stuff.Mysterious_Fairy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2020 2:50 amAND the Grandparents lost the second bedroom

How could she not know this ? Your grandma's underwear on International YT TV
seriously it would not have been hard to edit that all out .
But the absolute intrusion is far worse. Your good deed, and YouTube kudos but
please have some respect for your grandparents and their privacy. And believing
that it is OK to rummage thru their personal belongings and decide for them what
is worthwhile keeping then bagging up the rest into rubbish bags and tossing it all
outside and into the garage as if it was all old junk, rather than their treasured
clothing. I guess Mia's parents had a hand in all that and that is also disrespectful
to THEIR parents, unless there was prior permission granted.

Re: Mia Maples
I think it was okay but a bit dated - the headboard specifically was pretty ugly and uncomfortable looking. Headboards are where you lounge your back while reading your trash books in bed and that octagonal looking plastic-y headboard didn't look particularly lush. I felt like the one she got was a major upgrade. But the rest was pretty serviceable.
I think for the most part the light fixtures they like are WAY TOO BIG for the rooms. The statement chandeliers look best when there's space to admire them - you need a high ceiling and a big room.

I can't understand it at all.
It must be because she is a Canadian?
....If you ask liberal Canadians living in the cities.
Or anyone who doesn’t live in Canada

Re: Mia Maples
Mia's pretty likeable - she doesn't express many of her own opinions, seems sweet, relatable, and is a bit charmingly ditzy so she has mass appeal. I don't think this is nefariously done on her part either, but just a part of how she gets away with some minor indiscretions so easily. She clearly has lived a very privileged life and is fortunate to have the life she does.
... but that also reflects in certain things like her blind support of Jeffree, over-consumerism, inability to give legit reviews for products, incompetency with basic things, and her subs who are the definition of white feminism. When she stopped making comments about "having a weird body," top comments were always on about congratulating her on accepting her body and not blaming the clothes when she clearly has a thin, toned body with minimal curves that most women would not mind having -- it also means a lot of clothes will look good on her (provided she actually orders the right size) and can easily wear 'one size' brands. If you read the replies to those comments, there'd be people putting down other body types in exchange for putting her on a pedestal.
Her dedicated viewerbase is often always on board with whatever Mia does because of this homely, humble and sweet image she has. A bit of an echo chamber, essentially. I don't think she's faking her nice persona but I do understand the frustration with her questionable actions. I'm baffled how she still supports J* and didn't think about how supporting the LGBTQIA+ community is not the same as buying every single mass-produced thing companies churn out by capitalizing on pride month. If you were to bring up something that isn't 100% positive, you'd likely be downvoted to hell so Mia won't see it, or attacked for being "unnecessarily rude" and "jealous."

Re: Mia Maples
I find it very surprising how lacking her knowledge of clothing styles, cuts, fabrics is considering that one of her main activities seems to be online shopping and that fashion is what she has built a following around. She never seems to know what things are called. For example, in her latest video she says she didn't know what a mock neck was before her subscribers told her and she shows a chenille sweater but doesn't know that's what it's called and just tries to describe the material without naming it. I have noticed this a lot in her videos.

I agree. It’s frustrating when you see a young adult being uneducated about very basic things. Like not knowing what a fitted sheet and top sheet are? Especially when you own a house? I much prefer when youtubers I watch do research about stuff they buy or at least put the effort in to be knowledgeable, like safiya. It just ends up being more annoying to watch if they don’tobsessedwannabe wrote:I find it very surprising how lacking her knowledge of clothing styles, cuts, fabrics is considering that one of her main activities seems to be online shopping and that fashion is what she has built a following around. Watching her try to explain the reasons she still buys Brandy Melville even though she knows they’re a shit company was physically painful. You can really see her trying (and failing) to form the thoughts

I knew I wasn't alone! I mean, it isn't even a valid reason. She says "I know they only have one size and it sucks, but it fits me, soooo..." Noone could say anything more arrogant than this even if they tried hahahaCheryl Blossom wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:23 pmWatching her try to explain the reasons she still buys Brandy Melville even though she knows they’re a shit company was physically painful. I hate when people complain about brandy melville's sizing and then still buy their products, it is so disingenuous. if you really had a problem with it, you wouldn't support the company by buying their clothes. I would rather Mia not even have a disclaimer and just show the items because it is clear she doesn't actually care that much, or otherwise she wouldn't be shopping there.Cheryl Blossom wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:23 pmWatching her try to explain the reasons she still buys Brandy Melville even though she knows they’re a shit company was physically painful. Re: Mia Maples
I actually hate when youtubers do stupid disclaimers. I get why they do it, they get attacked for everything but it's better to just not say anything. I don't think she needs to boycott brandy melville or any other brand for that matter, no matter how controversial she can shop wherever she pleases but it's so dumb to say you care about a brand's lack of sizing and then do an entire haul on the brand. Just admit you don't care and spend your money however you please.lefargen97 wrote:Tue Feb 18, 2020 8:11 amI hate when people complain about brandy melville's sizing and then still buy their products, it is so disingenuous. if you really had a problem with it, you wouldn't support the company by buying their clothes. I can't with her consumerism. But at least she doesn't pretend to care about the environment for the sake of it. She straight out lives "ignorence is bliss".

Re: Mia Maples
So idk if this is just a subjective "me thing," but a lot of her style is very.. tacky imo. It's totally possible it's just the age gap (we're a few years apart) but after watching a lot of her hauls this past week, I can't help but notice how gaudy her sense of fashion can be. She doesn't really know what "good quality" is and buys mostly trend items. And this is coming from someone who admittedly buys fast fashion and grew up poor. Majority of what she buys isn't cohesive and is smth she saw someone on Instagram/TV flaunting.
It's good she's starting to pay attention to sustainability, but fast fashion seems to be what she's very used to. Looking at her family and housing arrangements, it's obvious she's from an upper-middle class Canadian family -- her spending habits also give this away. If she does begin to get into sustainability, that'd be great, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it's a phase or purely related to her channel. She mentioned how she (somehow) thought the pants were made of paper so it's possible what got her interested in Reformation to begin with was seeing another influencer wearing them, or because she thought having fashionable "paper pants" would make for good content.
I noticed she mentions she buys things that her viewers would like and not just things she'd wear. Same with the bedding she bought recently. I understand keeping others' taste in mind for content but it just seems wasteful? She's never gonna wear that stuff. She hasn't done a closet tour despite the hundreds of requests for it and mentions donating some prom dresses but nothing else. I wonder if she mostly keeps everything? The thing with donating is that while giving anything is a nice thought, people need sensible clothing. Stuff that's suitable to the weather, practical, good for job-seeking, not too flashy, etc. I'm surprised she doesn't resell her clothing since so many of her younger fans have said they'd love to have her "hand-me-downs" and it being another way to repurpose her constantly-growing wardrobe.

Where does she live, what job does she do and how the eff she thought Dyson air wrap was brand new? It took only a click on YouTube to see a review of it a while back. Does she like upload a video and leave the website?
